The Husabergs have two models of off road motorcycles. The FE edition and the FX. The FE models are the more for the woods racing. They come equip with softer suspension springs and a longer gear ratio to run a lower gear through the woods. The FX's are the motocross style. Pretty much the complete opposite of the FE model. Made more for motocross. I had the pleasure of riding the FE 450, FE 570 and the FX 450. Unfortunately the new FE 390 wasn't there so I was unable to ride it.
The FE 450 was very different compared to any other bike I have ridden. The power was great. Really mellow and smooth and put power and traction to the ground. But the overall feel of the bike was very awkward. It felt like I was riding a bull. Very wide and bulky. The pegs felt to high up and the bars were to far back on the triple trees. I honestly could not tell the difference between the FE 450 and the FX 450 other than the power came on much quicker and suspension stiffer. The FE 570 just felt like a big bore edition of the FE 450 but it was very sluggish out of the hole and the the gears went on forever.
I could see Husabergs's being a great bike to trail around on and have fun with, but not one to go out and race and get good results. I really wish I could have had the chance to run the FE 390, cause the word on the street is that bike is the bees knees.
Working on the motor would be good if you have very small hands. Everything is so compacted and tight. Also the cylinder is at a 70 degree angle which supposedly helps with the center of gravity. And like i stated previously the bike did handle very well and put traction straight to the ground.
Overall, being an avid racer myself, I would not buy this bike to race competitively. But if I were a weekend warrior, this would possibly be a consideration.
