Finally the GNCC gets kicked underway in River Ranch FL. The whole trip didnt go the way I had planned. I showed up in FL Thursday, FEB. 26th. My buddy Lucas and I shredded AMX training facility in Cairo, GA which was some flat out nasty riding! sweet moto and supercross track along with a sick sand turn track! After riding there we headed to Orange City and road the two loops they had. A month of riding hard at this track will put you in the best shape of your life! Tight, twisty, and flows well. We headed to the track a few days later for the race.
I was sitting at the line with my pit crew, Brett Bennett out of Oceola, IN and fellow 450forum product tester, Matt Zeiler. Row by row the classes take off. From XC1 (pro) XC2 (pro lites) then heavy A then finally my row 200A. The 10 seconds cue is given. Matt told me to get the whole shot, so I did. :D haha. I NAILED it! You could see some pictures of it but Kris's alarm clock didn't go off, so he was running a little behind and wasn't able to snap off some pictures. ;) Well we take off onto the 14 mile loop of sand, whoops, and the 10-12 ft alligator living around the water crossing we were going through. (we were advised to get up QUICK if we were to fall):eek: Well the first lap was super gnarly! DUSTY!! There were some spots where you had to drop down to 1st gear and just puts around. There was also this four mile grass track that was full of palmetto roots! I was unaware of that the first lap because it was so dusty you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. I guess I should have taken the hint when I was blitzing past Heavy A riders and saw my buddy laying off the side with his bike all tore up and him holding his arm.
Coming in for my first pit stop on the second lap I decided to roll an endo. It was pretty sweet! But it was a good pit. Got gas, adjusted my suspension, and i was off. I was running second and third for most of the day, but on the last lap, I was coming from a wide open 4th gear pinned section, into a 2nd gear tight section behind some lappers. Well they kicked up a lot of dust and when I was coming into that section blind. I wasnt expecting the whoop section that was there and it caught me off guard and threw me into an endo and tossed me onto my head. I was seeing stars and was a little dizzy. I was down for a good minute. I couldnt get into a rhythm for the life of me! I was getting passed left and right on that lap. I ended up getting seventh. :( When i came back to the pits, I found out that Lucas had broken his arm. We loaded up quickly and headed back to Daytona. We made a stop at the hospital. Long story short, he needed surgery ASAP and needed to be transported to a different hospital or he could have lost his arm. He was layed up in the hospital for 3 1/2 days. Well on thursday, Matt, Kris, myself and a few other acquaintance's went to destination daytona to look around at all of the bike week events. When we came back, we noticed Lucas's practice bike was missing off the back of the van. It was stolen. Some uneducated, worthless thief wanted it more than we did. Lukes week wasnt going well at all. We were scheduled to race Washinton, GA for RD. 2 of the GNCC's but they way everything was going for Luke, he was really itching to home. So we packed everything up Friday after he got released at 11p.m. and headed 17hrs straight home to IN. I had to drive straight through by myself since he was all drugged up. Highly don't recommend it!
Well all in all, i got a good tan, met some good people, got in some good riding, and got to take some pictures with models. :D
