So I getting ready to bust out a bunch of work at the shop when my girlfriend drops a plum she was eating. Obviously my dog runs over to have a bit to eat but just casually thinking about the plum seed i tried to wrestle the plum away from him. He turned away and ended up biting right through the center of the core splitting the seed in half and digesting it. I didnt think much of it for a second but then thought about a friends dog dying because of a corn cob that stuck in his intestines. So as any normal human I go right to the computer to search for "is it bad" thread of a plum seed. Shit, the first 2 searches i get are a pretty solid, YES! get that shit outa the dog. http://www.justanswer.com/questions/qwtg-dog-digest-plum-seed Turns out there is a level of cyanide inside the seeds of plums. My dog bit right threw the center of the seed eating the center and half the outside, a quick glance to the http://www.bichonfriseusa.com/ref/inducevom.htm says to use hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting, 1 tblspoon to every 10lbs, so i run to the store and get some brand new HydroPerox. and a baby feed eyedropper.
They said it should take about 20mins, and since my dog is a little jack russle terrier, weighing in at 12.5 pounds, after 20mins i get no vomiting from the dog, I apply a second dose of H.P. and wait another 20mins (elapsed time at this point is about 1hour15mins from eating of plum) mean while my girlfriend is calling the local emergency vet in daytona beach, we ended up taking the dog to "Volusia Animal Emergency Clinic, Inc. on ISB in daytona beach, just 3 miles from the 95 On ramp. Before we left, I made sure to grab the other plum in the fridge, cut it open, bringing the seed, take a picture with my camera phone of the dogs normal food, lay a free USPS box on the floor of my van along with the dogs bed, and bring the hydrogen peroxide bottle. (all of these just incase they need to see them)
On the way out to the vet my dog decided it is now time to throw up, luckly i have my free usps box flattened out on the van floor and I get him to throw up on the cardboard, I can pretty much see the piece of plum but I still decided to go to the doctors because it only cost 65$ to make sure, well worth the companionship of my dog and as a responsible pet owner it is just what you do.
I get to the clinic and muzzle my little beast who now already knows he is at a vets and starts to hate life, my girlfriend brings in the extra plum seed and the card board box with the throw up. FYI i brought the extra plum seed because i kinda figured who would know what the hell they looked like off the top of their head and if they had one to look at while sifting threw his throw up, it would make for an easy in an out job. Welp, good thinking because they didnt know but this helped them out big time and they gave me a few instructions of giving him light food for the rest of the night, maybe even baby food: chicken flavored, well i got BEECH NUT Chicken&Chicken broth for 1$ at walmart, I gave him half of it like doctor said, (let me tell you on a side note this food smells fucking horrible!) but he loves it eats it up, eventually he throws up again like doctor said he might but the soft baby food came up and out pretty easy.
Ive got a keen eye on him watching for any kind of redness on his gums, more throwing up, seizers but nothing so far and it has now been a few hours.
If anything take a look at the info as you might need it in the future for your dog.
