View Full Version : YZ400F - Viable base?

I see the YZ450F is getting easier and easier to setup thanks to GPTech... how much of those parts will translate to an older YZ400F? I know of one close by, bone stock, for decent money, but before I dive in I'd like to know how much wheel reinvention I'll be going through. : )

I also know I'll be down 10hp to 15hp on current 450s, and slightly heavier (steel frame) but I'm sure I'll be holding the bike back anyways so I don't care.

Looks like I actually have a couple options, the 1998 YZ400F, or a 2002 YZ426F...

There have been a few people talk about using some of the other bikes but I think in the long run you are just going to hurt yourself. Everyone will be focusing on making parts for newer 450's so that parts you are going to need are going to have to be custom. I would almost hold off for a 450 in my opinion.
